Feature of universal pipette tips
- Highly transparent material: Made of medical-grade polypropylene (PP), chemical-resistant and autoclavable. Uniform wall thickness and clear graduations ensure intuitive pipetting readings.
- Precision mold manufacturing: Highly consistent tip dimensions ensure tight, leak-proof assembly. Low-residue design ensures high sample removal efficiency.
- Wide compatibility: Compatible with manual and electronic pipettes from Eppendorf, Gilson, Rainin, Thermo, and Brand. Bagged pipette tips/boxed lab pipette tips/stacked pipette tips are optional.
- Multiple volume options: 10ul pipette universal tips, 200ul pipette tips, 1000 ul pipette tips, 5ml universal pipette tips, and 10 ml pipette tips. Available in various versions: plain, graduated pipette tips, long, and extended. Sterile pipette tips/non-sterile are also available.
- Clean production standards: Produced in a Class 100,000 cleanroom to ensure freedom from DNase, RNase, and pyrogen contamination.
FAQ of universal RNase-free pipette tips
How to autoclave pipette tips?
1. Check that the tips are autoclavable
Most polypropylene (PP) tips are autoclavable.
Universal low retention pipette tips or tips with filters may have temperature or pressure limits — always confirm with the manufacturer.
2. Prepare the tips
If in racks: Loosen or slightly open the rack lid to allow steam penetration.
If in bulk bags: Transfer to an autoclavable box or container; do not seal it completely.
Make sure tips are clean and free from any residual chemicals that could melt or degrade during autoclaving.
3. Autoclave settings
Temperature: 121 °C (standard)
Pressure: ~15 psi (1 atm above ambient)
Time: 15–20 minutes for sterilization (standard gravity cycle)
Drying: Add 10–15 minutes to prevent condensation inside racks.
4. After autoclaving
Let the tips cool completely inside the autoclave to avoid condensation and warping.
Store tips in a clean, closed box to keep them sterile until use.
Filtered vs Unfiltered pipette tips
1. What are unfiltered pipette tips?
- Definition: Standard plastic tips (usually polypropylene) with no internal barrier.
- When to use: Routine liquid handling (buffers, media, nonhazardous reagents).
- When contamination risk is low. Advantages: Less expensive. Widely available in many sizes and formats.
- Limitations: No protection against aerosols or liquid carryover into the pipette body. Risk of contaminating the pipette if accidentally aspirating too far.
2. What are filtered pipette tips?
- Definition: Tips containing a porous barrier (usually hydrophobic polyethylene) inside the upper part of the tip.
- Purpose: Prevent aerosols, vapors, or liquids from reaching the pipette shaft.
- When to use: PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, sequencing (to avoid nucleic acid contamination). Working with infectious, radioactive, or hazardous samples. Pipetting viscous or volatile liquids (reduces cross-contamination risk).
- Advantages: Protects both sample and pipette. Reduces risk of aerosol-based contamination in sensitive assays.
- Limitations: Higher cost. Some filters are non-autoclavable (check manufacturer). If using a positive displacement pipette, filter tips are unnecessary.
How to find the right pipette tip?
1. Match the tip to the pipette brand/model
- Check manufacturer recommendations first. Many pipette makers specify compatible tips to ensure accuracy.
- Universal tips vs. proprietary tips: Universal tips fit most air-displacement pipettes (Eppendorf, Gilson, Thermo, etc.), but the fit quality varies. Proprietary tips (e.g., Rainin LTS, Thermo ClipTip) have unique designs and require their own tips.
- Test for fit: When you press the tip onto the pipette, it should seat firmly without rocking or needing excessive force.
2. Choose the right volume range
- Always match the tip to your pipette’s max volume.
- Using an oversized tip (e.g., 1000 µL on a 200 µL pipette) reduces accuracy and can cause leakage.
3. Decide if you need filtered or unfiltered tips
- Filtered tips: Use for PCR, RNA/DNA work, cell culture, or hazardous samples to prevent aerosol contamination.
- Non filtered pipette tips: Fine for routine buffers, media, and non-critical solutions (lower cost).
4. Consider special features
- Low-retention tips: For proteins, viscous liquids, or small volumes to reduce sticking.
- Sterile/Pre-racked: For clinical or aseptic work.
- Conductive pipette tips: Required for some automated liquid handling systems (for liquid-level sensing).
- Extended length pipette tips: Reduce contamination risk when reaching into deep tubes or bottles.
What are my choices of pipette tips?
- Universal pipette tips: Available with or without filters.
- Automation tips: Compatible with workstations from Tecan, Hamilton, Agilent, Beckman, Rainin, Eppendorf, Thermo Fisher, Integra, Perkin Elmer, and Opentrons.
