FAQ of plastic dropper pipettes
What capacities do your disposable transfer pipettes offer?
Standard plastic Pasteur pipettes: 1 ml pasteur pipette, 3mL, 5mL, 10mL (e.g., 3 mL transfer pipette is most popular). Custom sizes available.
Can SDLABIO pipette de pasteur be autoclaved?
Disposable plastic pipette dropper generally come in pre-sterilized or non-sterile versions. Re-autoclaving is not recommended for non-sterile versions. If aseptic operation is required, please choose pre-sterilized products.
How to use pasteur transfer pipette?
1. Prepare your pipette and bulb
- Glass Pasteur pipettes: usually used with a rubber bulb or pipette aid.
- Plastic Pasteur pipette: has a built-in bulb — just squeeze and release. Make sure the pipette is clean or sterile if your experiment requires it.
2. Attach the bulb (if using glass pipette)
- Squeeze the bulb first to push air out.
- Gently fit it onto the narrow end of the pipette.
- Avoid forcing it too hard — glass pipettes can crack.
3. Draw liquid
- Squeeze the bulb, then place the pipette tip into your liquid.
- Slowly release the bulb to draw liquid up.
- Do not draw liquid into the bulb itself — keep the pipette upright and controlled.
4. Dispense liquid
- Move the pipette to the receiving container.
- Gently squeeze the bulb to release liquid.
- For dropwise dispensing, control pressure carefully so drops form at the tip.
5. After use
- Glass pipettes: discard into a sharps container (if broken) or send for washing/sterilization.
- Plastic pipettes: usually single-use; dispose in regular or biohazard waste depending on what they touched.
pasteur pipette vs serological pipette
1. Pasteur pipette
- Material: Glass (with rubber bulb) or plastic (integrated bulb).
- Volume range: Usually <10 mL (1ml plastic dropper, 3 mL, 5 mL common).
- Graduation: Usually no or rough graduations — not for precise measurement.
- Usage: Transfer or add liquids dropwise. Common for adding reagents, transferring organic solvents, or moving small volumes between containers.
- Sterility: Disposable plastic versions can be pre-sterilized, but glass types must be autoclaved if re-used.
- Key feature: Cheap, quick, low-precision tool — think of it as a “liquid transporter,” not a measuring instrument.
- Material: Plastic (usually polystyrene).
- Volume range: 1 mL to 100 mL (graduated for accurate measurement).
- Graduation: Fully calibrated for volume measurement (±1–2% accuracy).
- Usage: Accurate measurement and transfer of larger volumes. Typically used with a pipette controller (manual or electronic), not by hand. Common in cell culture, microbiology, and sterile liquid handling.
- Sterility: Usually individually wrapped, gamma-irradiated, sterile, and disposable.
- Key feature: Combines precision + sterile technique for higher-volume work.
