SDLABIO Histology Cassette
SDLABIO Histology cassettes are laboratory consumables used for histology and pathology sample processing, primarily for tissue dehydration, paraffin embedding, and section preparation. Typically constructed from a high-strength polymer, these cassettes offer excellent chemical and temperature resistance, ensuring stability in dehydrators, embedding machines, and microtomes. Their fine mesh structure and permeability ensure that reagents fully penetrate the tissue, enhancing the quality of subsequent sectioning and staining.

Feature of Embedding Cassette
- High-quality materials: Made from advanced imported POM (Polyoxymethylene) material, it effectively minimizes paraffin block deformation caused by temperature fluctuations during embedding, cooling, and microtome sectioning processes.
- Multi-porous design: Ensures rapid and uniform penetration of reagents, accelerating tissue processing.
- Precise dimensions: Compatible with standard paraffin embedding machines and microtomes, ensuring section integrity.
- Clear labeling area: The box features a writing area for convenient sample identification and prevents confusion.
- Various colors: Available in a variety of colors for easy sample sorting and management.
- Strong tolerance: Excellent resistance to common organic solvents and reagents (such as xylene and alcohol).
- Compatible with tissue sampling knives, formalin cups, sample containers, slides, and other instruments, meeting the needs of the entire histology workflow.
FAQ Of Pathology Cassette
What are histo cassettes primarily used for?
Cassette pathology is primarily used during paraffin dehydration, clearing, and embedding of tissue samples, ensuring that the sample maintains its structural integrity during subsequent sectioning and staining.
What are the differences between the colors of histology tissue cassettes?
The different colors are primarily used for sample sorting and quick identification. There are no functional differences. Experimenters can choose the appropriate color based on their management needs.
What are the types of tissue cassettes?
- Classification by hole type
- Square-hole cassette pathology: These have rectangular or square holes with a large opening area. Their advantage is more complete paraffin penetration, making them suitable for average-sized tissue blocks. Their disadvantage is the risk of loss for small or fragmented tissues.
- Round-hole cassettes pathology: These have round or oval holes with relatively uniform pore diameters. Their advantage is a balance of paraffin penetration and specimen protection, making them suitable for small and medium-sized tissues. Their disadvantage is slightly slower paraffin penetration than square-hole embedding cassettes, but they are safer for small tissues.
- Classification by lid type
- Cassette histology without a lid: Require an additional lid or mesh sheet to secure the specimen. They are low-cost and simple in design. However, they require multiple steps and present a risk of specimen loss during transfer.
- Cassettes with a single lid: The lid is integrally molded with the cassette body, connected by a small hinge. Advantages include ease of use and a lack of lid loss; they are suitable for high-throughput routine pathology laboratories. However, frequent opening and closing of the lid can damage the hinge.
- Cassettes with a removable lid: The lid is separate from the cassette body and must be snapped on separately. Advantages include flexible, interchangeable lids, greater flexibility, and improved compatibility with certain devices. However, careful alignment of the lid with the cassette body is crucial to avoid confusion or loss.
How to use embedding cassettes?
- Preparation: Make sure the biopsy cassettes and stainless steel embedding frame are clean and dry. Prepare tissue specimens, paraffin, marking pens or marking machines and other tools.
- Place specimens: Place tissue specimens in the 31265mm independent compartment of the embedding cassette, and ensure that the specimens are completely immersed in the processing liquid.
- Mark specimens: Use a marking pen to mark the specimen information on the writing surface on both sides of the tissue embedding cassettes, or use a marking machine to mark through a 45° bevel.
- Cover the lid: Cover the detachable lid with inner card type, and ensure that the outer surface is flat for subsequent processing.
- Liquid exchange: Place the embedding cassette in the processing liquid, and the 1*5mm long hole design helps to fully exchange the liquid.
- Paraffin embedding: Place the plastic embedding cassettes in the stainless steel embedding frame, inject melted paraffin, and ensure that the specimens are completely embedded.
- Cooling and solidification: Wait for the paraffin to cool and solidify to form a paraffin block.
- Slicing: Take the paraffin block out of the embedding cassette and slice it.
