SDLABIO Cardboard Cryobox

SDLABIO Cardboard cryobox is an economical sample storage consumable made of cryogenically resistant cardboard. It is primarily designed for use with cryotubes and for sample storage in ultra-low temperature freezers or liquid nitrogen vapor phase. They are widely used in biobanks, molecular biology laboratories, and clinical research centers. Compared with cryobox plastic, it can reduce the generation of laboratory plastic waste and conform to the concept of sustainable development.

Feature of cardboard freezer boxes

  • Water-Resistant Coated: Paperboard Made with laminated, waterproof paperboard, resist moisture and maintain their integrity even under ultra-low temperatures, making them ideal for long-term cryogenic storage.
  • Cryo-Compatible at Low Temperatures: Designed for use in -80°C freezers, the boxes remain stable and durable, ensuring safe storage of biological samples without deformation or breakdown.
  • Multi-Sided Alphanumeric Grid Markings: For quick and easy sample identification, each box features clearly printed alphanumeric markings on the box top, sides, and base—simplifying inventory management and reducing handling errors.
  • Lightweight and Stackable Design: Cardboard cryo storage boxes are lightweight yet rigid, making them easy to handle and stack efficiently in freezer racks or laboratory storage systems.

FAQ of cryo freezer boxes

What is a cardboard cryo freezer box used for?

A cryo paper box is a cost-effective storage container designed to organize and store cryogenic vials (cryovials) in ultra-low temperature freezers, typically at -80°C. It is ideal for routine sample archiving, especially when large quantities of vials need to be sorted efficiently.

No. Cardboard cryo freezer boxes are not suitable for direct contact with liquid nitrogen. They are intended for use in mechanical freezers (e.g., -80°C) and may degrade or become brittle if exposed to liquid nitrogen environments.

  • Affordability: Cardboard cryoboxes are more economical for large-scale storage.
  • Lightweight: Easier to handle and stack.
  • Customizable layout: Available in various grid formats such as 9×9 or 10×10, suitable for different cryovial sizes.
  • Eco-friendly: Often made from recyclable materials.

Absolutely. The outer surface of the cryovial box is writable using standard lab markers, making it easy to label and track samples. Some versions of the cardboard cryobox 9×9 also come pre-printed with writing areas or barcodes for better sample management.
For long-term storage or high-throughput environments, you can also use cryogenic labels, which are designed to adhere securely to cardboard surfaces and withstand ultra-low temperatures without fading, smudging, or peeling.

Paper-based cryovial boxes are more suitable for short-term or medium-term sample storage. For long-term storage and frequent handling, we recommend PC/PP-based cryoboxes.
